Founder of AXS LEARNING SRL, the company behind AXS GIF

I grew up in Moara Vlăsiei, a village just outside Bucharest, and studied mathematics and computer science at the Colegiul Național „I.L. Caragiale” in Bucharest. I got a 10 — the top mark — in mathematics at the Romanian baccalaureate, and went on to study Automatic Control and Computers at the Politehnica University of Bucharest.

It started with tutoring: in high school I helped a few younger students with maths and physics for free, and over the years more than 100 students have worked with me. To turn that into something lasting I founded AXS LEARNING SRL, which today builds education platforms — among them AXS Liceu, used by more than 6,500 students and parents to prepare for the national high-school admission, and Era Lumis, which marks practice exams against the official grading scheme.

Why AXS GIF exists

AXS Tools — AXS GIF and its sister sites — are built on three rules: do the job in your browser wherever that's possible, so files stay on your device; stay free for everyday use; and say plainly when a file does have to be processed on a server, and what happens to it there.

How we build and test the tools

Every GIF tool is tested end to end in a real browser with real videos and GIFs, and the output is measured: dimensions, number of frames, frame timing, duration and file size.

The test set covers the formats people actually have: MP4 (H.264), iPhone HEVC video, MOV, WebM, AVI and MKV, plus photos of different sizes and orientations for building animations.

That testing is how we found that the GIF engine had stopped loading for everyone and fixed it, and the file-size figures on the tool pages come from those tests.
